Will Windows Phone Mango survive in the mobile Wars?

Windows Phone Mango update has been out now and I have even tried on the pace of Samsung Omnia 7, but let me confess one thing that, I want to be honest to the Windows fan who have huge expectation from their favourite player. To be honest even after trying Windows Phone Mango update on Omnia, I still the charisma of Android and iPhone is running to by eyes. I rather prefer to use my Galaxy Nexus or Tab which triggers the power of Android.

  • What WP needs

Well the biggest challenge WP needs to overcome in the kingdom of Android & iOS is, they need to come up with something interesting and only being good will not be enough to survive in the war of innovation. The scenario is like Android Vs Apple is technologically equivalent to the Pepsi Vs Coke and WP is like a RC Cola in which very few people are interested. Without having that X-factor in the WP, seems like journey for Microsoft will be quite tough on the way of WebOs and Palm.

Frankly speaking, I think it’s the Microsoft goodies and the brand name which is holding the hands of WP, plus the old association with the company is giving support to the WP technology.

Compared to the taste of Android and iOS, the WP stands far behind. Another big challenge for WP is reaching the critical mass of users; in 2010 the market capture figures of WP was 11 percent which has now turned down to only 5 percent with Android on the top with 46 percent market capture. These figures have also failed to encourage app developers round the world to support the pillars of Windows Phone. It’s a kind of pain to the existing WP users as they will definitely feel discomfort when they find the Android users having fun with fabulous innovation. However the addition of multitasking with Mango along with number of New Apps can provide relief to the pain of WP users.

The general feeling of user community round the world is, ‘WP is good, but is it good enough to stop the people moving in the direction of more mature players in the market’ However Windows Phone 7 is not as bad as it is being projected. Let us have a look what are the goodies in the WP7 and how it gonna be supported by Mango Updates.

WP7 has the tiles which provide scroll interaction rather than left or right. Instead of focusing on apps, WP7 majorly focus on the tasks. The whole interface is built around with an idea of the HUB, where users can easy see what the new notifications are concerning to social media, calendar and emails. Such kind of tile like OS paradigm is a kind of concept which is beyond the style iOS and Android but still it fails to excite the user community. Expectation is high from Mango updates and we hope that WP will gonna be more finished OS compared to its competitors and will surely addresses the lack of multi tasking, tethering and interactive features.

  • Mango offers a range of improvements that might modernise the WP smart phone, few of the highlights are:

  • Linkedin and Twitter integration
  • Facebook and other social media integration
  • Threaded emails
  • Multitasking app switchers
  • Third party support for live tules
  • Better search function
  • Cloud integration

Hope the Mango updates can save the boat of WP from sinking in the ocean of Android and Apple.
